Send in the Clouds is Dead. Long live Send in the Clouds!

Having come to the rather obvious realization that no one’s actually reading/looking at this Blog, I’ve decided to put it into early retirement, at least for now. Perhaps when I’m rich and famous and people are paying thousands of Euros for my photos I’ll write in it again. Until that time however I shall move my thoughts and other crap to Myspace (or, as Microsoft Word prefers: 'Misplace'). Yep, the giant that just keeps growing is to be my new online home, while my photos have rented a room in that big beautiful palace in the sky called Flickr.

The times they are a-changing etc.

Thanks for your time, your 10 comments, and your love.

So long, farewell, blah blah blah, and I hope to meet you again in the above & underlined.

Steven

Nude Britney Gives Birth on Bearskin Rug

Ha! If that's not a title to draw in the bloggers then I don't know what is!
Apparently these are real sculptures, I forgot where I found them, Stereogum.com perhaps.
I'm not sure where I'd put them... the garden perhaps?
Actually, you could build a really nice coffee table with them, all you need is a big plate of glass over the top!

Over the Edge With Pete Doherty

'Oh ! but see how from the middle of this Dance of Death
Springs into the red sky a great skeleton, mad,
Carried away by his own impetus, like a rearing horse :
And, feeling the rope tight again round his neck,

Clenches his knuckles on his thighbone with a crack
Uttering cries like mocking laughter,
And then like a mountebank into his booth,
Skips back into the dance to the music of the bones !'

Dance of the hanged men

Young & Insane

The city in the morning

It’s 5 or 6 on Sunday morning. Groups of people are out on the streets, filling the snack bars, roadside hamburger places and anywhere else that's open this early/late. Groups of people surround them, smiling, laughing, talking. Women adjusting their too-short skirts, checking themselves in reflections of sandwich grills and display cases. Groups of teenagers sit smoking whatever it is that teenagers smoke. The Sunday newspapers have just been parachuted down across the city, sitting on piles, waiting patiently for those who have finished their sandwich, pies, and crepes. People check the papers to see what comes free with which (this has become the norm in Greece, a free DVD, usually several, a magazine or two, a free shampoo sample etc), often buying several other papers in addition to their usual to get a copy of the ‘Breakfast Club’, ‘Devils Advocate’, or perhaps one of Tinto Brass’ many films. ‘All ladies do it’? Soft porn with a semblance of a story? Sounds pretty good after a night out. These DVDs come packaged in a small card envelope. Practical for inserting in newspapers, not so practical for adding to your DVD collection at home. Perhaps that’s why we rarely end up actually watching them.
Now we're off to bed, to fall asleep to the sound of birds chirping and the rest of the city waking up.

And people ask me why I like this city...

Morrissey Questioned by FBI

"The FBI and the Special Branch have investigated me and I've been interviewed and taped and so forth. They [the FBI] were trying to determine if I was a threat to the government, and similarly in England. But it didn't take them very long to realise that I'm not."

Jens, not retiring, giving away presents!

It seems working at a bingo hall for a few weeks was enough to encourage his return to the music scene, and judging by the amount of swooning indie girls at his gigs, who can blame him?
You might want to make your way over to...

http://www.jenslekman.com/presents.htm

...where our favourite Swedish pop minstrel Jens Lekman is giving away 3 VERY limited edition tour EPs. You can download them or just listen to them if you prefer.

What your favourite bands say about you

Hey people, I came across this on Stylus.com, from the brilliantly titled artice 'The (indie) Kids Are(n’t) Alright'
The potential for this game is clearly limitless...

Here are a handful of bands and what liking them says about you:

Interpol - “I am deep, moody, urban and edgy, given to pathos and bad poetry. Please have sex with me, but don’t expect an orgasm.”

Bright Eyes - “I have read a book about true love and am too scared to treat you badly. Please don’t have sex with me, as I will cry.”

Embrace - “I really am in it for the music, because the public perception of my favourite band is terrible. Please have sex with me in a slightly dull, monogamous way.”

Kompakt-style techno - “I transcend the body-mind divide by being intellectually into dancing. Please have sex with me on drugs.”

Bloc Party - “I am very cool but not as alternative as I’d like to think, and I wish I knew more black people. Please have sex with me, but be careful not to mess-up my hair.”

Girls Aloud - “I am a shallow pop whore. Let’s fuck! But it will be without true, meaningful emotion.”

Arcade Fire - “I am into way more cool and obscure stuff than anyone else. Please let me say I had sex with you ages ago, before anyone else.”

Oasis - “I am a piss-throwing troglodyte misogynist. I am going to date-rape you.”

Athens in the Snow

Woke up this morning to snow! Yes I know it's only very cold rain but I still love it. Athens, however, was definitely not built to handle it, or rather Athenians weren't built for it. The few people that made it to work today looked at me with amazement, asking me 'Παιδι μου! Why did you come?' or 'HOW did you come?!'
People! It's only snowing! It's not like streets are closed off and the power's gone down!*
Surely before this is over ministers will have resigned, questions will be raised in parliament, and lots of people will have stayed home from work.

*To be fair, the electricity on some islands has gone down.

Πίνε γάλα από δω και πέρα

Poured myself half a cup of coffee, trying to stay awake. It’s dark outside.

I started class last week, yep my first official Greek course ever!

In 8 weeks from now I should feel comfortable walking into my local Kaffeneion, ordering something sugary with my coffee and comfortably engaging in a heated discussion on the merits of 1980s PASOK, the gradual centering of Greek political parties in the late 20th century, and last night’s basketball game… Ok maybe I’m overreaching just a tad bit, but you get the idea.

So what if people find my stumbled Greek ‘cute’ or ‘funny’ (a word which, to be fair, has never been used), I also know how much they appreciate the effort. There’s nothing better than one of ‘them’ acting like ‘one of us’ after all is there? I’ve danced to your songs, kissed your girls, and eaten your food. To that I shall soon add ‘spoken your language’. I promise.
